President Paul Biya prolongs “Brief Private Stay” in Europe
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Wednesday August 11th 2021 marks one month since president Paul Biya and wife Chantal left Yaounde – Cameroon on Sunday July 11th for a “… brief private stay in Europe”.

A release that announced the departure of the Presidential couple from Yaounde signed by the Director of Civil Cabinet at the presidency of the republic failed to specify where Cameroon’s first couple was heading to.

Few days after, a group of Cameroonian activists based abroad under the banner “Brigade Anti Sardinards” (BAS) exposed the country hosting president Paul Biya and wife. Hundreds of these activists besieged Intercontinental Hotel in Geneva Switzerland demanding the immediate return of the Presidential couple to Cameroon.

Their actions met with the wrath of Swiss security service forcing the irate Cameroonians to retreat. To members of BAS, Paul Biya’s leadership lapses have stagnated development in Cameroon for close to four decades.

Back in Cameroon, the minister of Communication and government spokesperson in a press conference condemned the ‘attack’ on the president stating that he is an institution that incarnates the Republic of Cameroon.

A condemnation re echoed by several political party leaders and sympathisers of the ruling Cameroon People Democratic Movement – CPDM.

Sunday 25th of July 2021, militants of the ruling CPDM party in Mfoudi division in the centre region of Cameroon flooded Nsimalen airport with several dance groups to welcome president Paul Biya and wife home. A warm planned reception that turned sour as Paul Biya failed to show up. To critics, the failed arrival of the president further demonstrates how he alone masters his agenda, keeping it secret even from his collaborators and party comrades.

At the moment, no a single soul can boast of knowing when the Presidential couple will be back. Many say though president Paul Biya has neither taken a COVID 19 test nor received Vaccination against the deadly virus, he is still parading in Europe not minding the fact that the continent remains the epicenter of the new Delta Varian of COVID 19 pandemic.
