President Paul Biya is offering hygienic items and medical kits worth two billion francs cfa to all 360 council areas in Cameroon.
In a release signed by the minister of territorial administration Monday April 20th 2020, the gesture of president Paul Biya puts to shame criticisms from opposition politicians that are seeking “cheap popularity” by criticising all efforts made to curb COVID 19 by the regime of Paul Biya.
To Paul Atanga Nji, the items that will be transported to Cameroon’s 10 regional capitals comprises face masks to both the population and medical workers, buckets ,washing cans, rapid screening kits and hand sanitizers.
The chain of administration from the governor to the senior divisional officer and the divisional officers is to enhance the effective distribution of the items to the population that will be use to bar the way to the spread of coronavirus.
The release states that the gifts are not part of one billion COVID 19 solidarity fund earlier announced by the president of Cameroon.
The action of president Paul Biya has been considered by some critics as coming late when coronavirus has already eaten deep in Cameroon. As of Monday April 20th over 40 people have died of the virus with more than 1000 infected cases .Officials of the ministry of public health say 305 people have been treated of COVID 19 in Cameroon.
President Paul Biya’s first appearance after over thirty five days of silence was last week when he received French ambassador Christophe Guilhou at the unity palace.
