A pupil sustained an eye injury during a practical session of the nationwide Common Entrance Examination, which began today across Cameroon. The incident occurred at St Joseph Catholic School in Big Mankon.

The injury reportedly happened while the pupil was working on a broom-making task, part of the practical segment of the exam.

A teacher at the school reported that they quickly took the pupil to a nearby hospital for treatment. “We were supervising the session when the pupil suddenly cried out in pain. We immediately stopped the activity and rushed him to the hospital,” said the teacher, who asked not to be named.

School officials have not released the victim’s name or the extent of the injury. However, eyewitnesses described the scene as tense but controlled. “Everyone was shocked, but the teachers acted fast,” said a fellow pupil who was in the same session.

The Ministry of Basic Education has not yet commented on the incident.

The Common Entrance Examination determines admission into secondary schools and includes both written and practical components.
