Cameroon Elite One side, PWD of Bamenda, has reported the theft of personal belongings of players and staff during their matchday 29 game against Colombe du Dja et Lobo at the Ngoa Ekelle Stadium in Yaoundé.
In a statement released by the club, the incident took place while the team was on the pitch playing the first half of their MTN Elite One fixture.
Someone accessed the dressing room assigned to PWD without authorisation and stole several valuable items belonging to players and staff.
“The stolen items include mobile phones, money, football boots, shoes, watches, and other valuable possessions,” the club said.
Despite the disruption, the players went on to complete the match and ended the encounter in a 1-1 draw, a feat the club described as the players’ “remarkable dedication and sportsmanship.”
PWD’s management says the gendarmerie is investigating the theft after it lodged a formal complaint with the local authorities.
The club expressed deep regret over the incident and called for improved security measures to protect teams during official matches.
This theft comes amid concerns over security at match venues in Cameroon’s top-flight football league, where players and officials are increasingly raising alarms over logistical and safety issues.
