The Rwandan Police Service has arrested a man suspected of Killing at least ten people and burying them under his kitchen.
Reports say, that on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, the police arrested and detained 34-year-old Denis Kazungu, outside of the Rwandan capital of Kigali.
Police spokesman Thierry Murangira told reporters, “The investigators found a pit he had dug in his kitchen, which he used to bury those he killed.”
Most of his victims were women, but one man was found among the dead bodies.
Kanzugu’s nefarious activities were uncovered when his landlord decided to evict him from a rented apartment.
Kanzugu’s refusal to quit and grant access to the property led to the police’s invitation. When officers attempted to evict Kazungu, he put up a fight, and the cops hauled him to a local police station.
While in custody, Kazungu shocked the officers and told them about bodies he had buried under his kitchen.
Police officers returned to the home and found a pit covering a concrete slab, with at least 10 bodies inside.
“He operated by luring his victims, mostly prostitutes, to his home where he would rob them of their phones and belongings and then strangle them to death and bury them in a hole dug in the kitchen of his rented house, police spokesman Murangira said,
According to investigators, he targeted people who were alone and had few family or friends to look out for them.
Police are still working to determine exactly how many people Kazungu killed, though a source with the federal Rwanda Investigation Bureau told AFP there were 14 victims.
