Many have expressed disappointment at France for prohibiting activist, Nathalie Yamb from setting foot on its soil. Yamb who is a Cameroonian-Swiss activist it should be recalled, has made several calls against France’s influence in African affairs. The recent action by France is affirmation that these calls have not been taken in good faith by French authorities.
One of Cameroon’s leading opposition parties, the Social Democratic Front (SDF), has joined the many voices denouncing France’s actions.
“Such a position coming from the French authorities is regrettable at a time when the whole world is resolutely commited to the path of fundamental freedoms, in particular, freedom of opinion and freedom of movement,” remarked Moise Nguidjol Ngan, SDF Shadow Cabinet Minister & Media person.
“While denouncing France’s position,” the politician went on, “the SDF reaffirms the position of the African youth, free and unhibited who aspire to emancipation.”
The SDF party went on to cite Yamb as a “friend of the emancipation of our people”, asserting that barring her from traveling to or living in France was the wrong way to go.
Anti-French sentiments have been on the rise in Africa, where many feel that it is time for the colonial relationship with the continent to end.
