SDF Program Rated Highest Ahead of Cameroon’s Presidential Election

A recent study by the Economic Policy Management Program (GPE) of the University of Yaoundé II has ranked the Social Democratic Front (SDF) as having the most comprehensive and credible economic program among the 12 candidates contesting Cameroon’s October 12, 2025, presidential election.

The evaluation, titled “Economic Assessment of Candidates’ Programs for the 2025 Presidential Election in Cameroon,” compared the candidates’ platforms based on five main criteria: relevance to national priorities, feasibility under current fiscal and institutional constraints, expected economic and social impact, credibility of implementation, and political experience.

The results show that the SDF’s plan achieved the highest overall score, reflecting well-structured proposals in governance, institutional reform, and social policy, as well as attention to sustainability and energy transition.

The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM/RDPC) followed closely, with a balanced and technically consistent program covering public finance, production, and social development. However, the study noted limited emphasis on administrative reform and anti-corruption strategies.

A second group of parties—including the Liberal Alliance Party (PAL), the Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN), and the Cameroon Democrats’ Front (FDC)—recorded mid-range scores between 8 and 11 out of 20. Their programs were found relevant but often lacked detailed costing or implementation frameworks.

Parties such as the Front for the Salvation of Cameroon (FSNC) and UNIVERS ranked lower, with scores below 8, mainly due to the absence of quantified measures and limited consideration of state capacity.

Overall, the study highlights significant variation in the coherence and feasibility of candidates’ economic proposals. It recommends greater integration of fiscal realism, institutional reform, and environmental sustainability in policy design.

The report provides an analytical basis for public debate as Cameroon approaches a critical electoral period marked by economic and social challenges.
