SDF scribe says election-selling allegation is the work of detractors

Honourable Djeumeni Benilde of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) political party has described allegations of him selling out elections for 7 million FCFA as false.

He made the declaration shortly after a note purportedly signed by him, was released, indicating he had accepted the said amount of money to forfeit the 2020 February election in Dibombari, Littoral Region.

According to a document that went viral this past weekend, Djeumeni Benilde and Nguime Ekollo, another party scribe agreed to step down and let the ruling Cameroon People Democratic Movement (CPDM) party take over in Dibombari in the Moungo Division, Littoral region.

Contrary to these accusations, Hon Djeumeni said he was never a candidate in the municipal election in the Dibombari municipality.

“I have never been a party representative during these municipal elections in this municipality to engage in negotiations with other parties, on the verge of withdrawing from a list,” he stated.

In his statement debunking the accusations, the politician said he “… mainly led the SDF list to the legislative elections and obtained thanks to a hard work of monitoring the votes one (01) seat out of the three (03) to be filled in Moungo South.”

The document in circulation, he went on, “clearly reveals a crude attempt to imitate my signature, and the writing of the name below unfortunately betrays the deception.”

In addition to denying ever even being remotely linked to an agreement of such a nature, Hon Djeumeni said it goes against his “political convictions and ethics.”

In his statement, the politician expressed the opinion that he was being witchhunted, naming persons believed to be the source.

“Only, faithful to the ideals of the party and a follower of scientific technique in politics, I refused to participate in this game which aims to push my party to implode and further distract the People for selfish and egocentric interests,” he declared.

He ended his statement reassuring the public that he remains “… committed to working with integrity for the development of my constituency and our country, without being distracted by idle people, who feed on fakes news and have nothing more to prove in politics.”
