The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, party has appointed a team tasked with the coordination of its candidates to run for the February 9 municipal and legislative elections.

In a communiqué made public today, John Fru Ndi in his capacity as chairman of the party’s investiture committee granted “investiture with a right to revision, to all the existing members of the national assembly” from his party, instructing them to compile their candidacy files.
He also instructed that existing mayors, deputy mayors and municipal councillors of the party should do same.

Elected SDF officials not willing to take part in the elections, he added, should make their intentions known in writing. The National Chairman went on to list party members that will “coordinate the compilation and composition of prospective party candidates and lists, in collaboration with the respective regional chairpersons for presentation to the investiture committee”. The 14-man coordination has been assigned the roles at regional and national levels.

Ni John Fru Ndi said any difficulties faced due to what he termed ” the civil war going on in the North West and South West regions” should be reported to the party’s regional executives. November 21, he added, should be the latest date for the transmission of files to the National Coordination which will in turn use 24 hours to hand them to his office.

The recent decision comes hours after the party backtracked from an earlier decision not to take part in February’s elections due to happenings in the Anglophone regions.
