SDF Unveils List of Candidates with Just Ten Days Until Elections

The Social Democratic Front Party (SDF) has recently announced the list of candidates who will be participating in the upcoming elections.

Yesterday, on October 17, 2023, the names were revealed. This occurred one day after their press conference, which took place in Yaounde, located in the Centre Region of Cameroon.

The list includes 50 different positions, such as the National President, Vice President, National Treasurer, and National Communication Secretary, to name a few.

Three candidates have been shortlisted to compete for the position of National President of the Social Democratic Front. The individuals mentioned are Joshua Osih, Godden Zama, and Shewa David.

Joshua Osih

The First National Vice President of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) party, Hon. Joshua Osih, was recently co-opted as the new National Chairman of the party.

Osih was voted in during the SDF’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Yaounde on Saturday, September 9.

Since the SDF’s creation in 1990, Joshua Osih is the first person, aside from the party’s late founding father, Ni John Fru Ndi, to occupy the position of Chairman.

He will therefore be competing with the two other candidates to maintain the position at the helm of the political party.

Godden Zama

Mr. Zama made his declaration during a press conference on Saturday, August 5, 2023, in the seaside resort town of Limbe in the South West region.

He declared his candidature for the post of national chairman, thereby scuttling Osih’s chances of being the lone candidate.

Shewa David

Shewa David, also known as ‘Jestel’, has announced his candidature for the position of national chairman of the opposition Social Democratic Front (SDF).

On Friday, August 18, 2023, he publicly announced his intention during a press conference held in Yaounde, which is located in the Centre Region of Cameroon.

The individual who previously ran for parliament in the Ako-Misaje special Constituency, but was unsuccessful, is now the third candidate to announce their candidature for the top position in the SDF.

Big shoes to fill

Mr. Fru Ndi died on June 12, 2023, and was officially buried in his native Baba II village in Santa, Mezam division of the North West region, on July 29, 2023.

Before his death, he indicated his willingness to step down as party chairman, opening the door to potential candidates to fill the vacuum.

The elections are expected to take place on October 27–28, 2023, with a total of 2,400 delegates expected to cast their votes.

The big question remains whether the said candidates have what it takes to be able to fit the shoes of Ni John Fru Ndi.
