A secondary school teacher has criticised the criteria which has been used over the years to select teachers who mark the GCE examinations.
She has refered to the process as being highly questionable and fraudulent, given that despite several years of applying for to mark the GCE, she has never been selected.
The most surprising facts of them above all is that most of the teachers often selected to mark the GCE examinations are either University lecturers, or teachers who have their connections at the GCE board to fit them in at will.
“Teachers who currently prepare the students for the examination are not even given the opportunity to have the experience. There’s indeed a lot of corruption in that department… If you don’t have a godfather, you can’t be selected to mark,” she blasted.
Many teachers have tend to question the criteria used to select these markers and demanded that it be made known. In such a way, persons know what is lacking and what can be done to fix that so as to get selected subsequently.
The same also almost applies to persons who file in their application at the GCE Board for the Secretariat job at the time of the marking, we are told.
“If you do not know anyone at the GCE Board, you may almost never be taken to do it… Why should everything in this country be used as an avenue for corruption?” Laments the teacher.
