Gunmen believed to be separatist fighters publicly executed a woman at the Azire Old Church Junction in Bamenda, North West Region, on the night of Saturday, October 26th, 2024.
This brought back memories of the October 2023 public execution of two civilians by separatist fighters at Guzang, a village in Batibo Subdivision of the North West.
Residents of Azire grieve and fear after the recent incident. A motorbike rider witnessed the execution and revealed the brutality of the woman’s killing.
“The lady was brought on a bike. They pulled her down and then fired into her face,” he told MMI.
The eyewitness describes the woman’s final moments in a painful way.
Separatists reportedly abducted the young woman, brought her to the site of her execution, and shot her.
The MMI journalist arrived at the scene to find her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, her face shattered from the gunshot.
She still draped her bag, filled with various items for sale, across her body, suggesting she was engaged in her trade when someone took her.
As of this report, authorities still have not taken her remains from the junction. She is therefore still awaiting identification.
Local residents question the motives behind the execution.
The Azire Old Church Junction is turning into an execution ground for Separatist fighters.
Gunmen believed to be separatist fighters have dropped bodiless heads at the junction in the past.
Cold blooded killings and executions are frequent in Bamenda, a city that has witnessed heightened levels of violence since conflict broke out in the English-speaking Regions of Cameroon.
