Separatists fighters kill two and injure one in mile 4 Nkwen ambush

By Soulemanu Buba

One soldier and a civilian have been shot death and one soldier injured in mile 4 Nkwen-Bamenda. The incident occured in the early hours of Saturday June 11, 2022 following an ambush by gunmen at a checkpoint mounted by government soldiers around mile 4 park Nkwen-Bamenda, North West region of Cameroon.

According to reliable sources, five soldiers were at the check point at the time of the attack and two were unfortunate.

“Two soldiers were shot, one died on the spot, while the other was badly wounded”, a source who preferred to be called Tim told MMI.

“……a bullet also hit a commercial bike rider who died on the spot”, Tim added saying that, “the uniform officers were at a checkpoint where they are noted for extorting money from transporters making life very difficult for the population,”

It is likely that the bike rider shot death had stopped at the checkpoint to settle the normal 500 bribe.

An armed separatist militia known as ‘Wounded Lions’ of Bafut 7kata has claimed responsibility of the attack in a viral video, brandishing a rifle, bullet proof vest, and amunitions taken from the government soldier killed in the ambush

It should be noted that such checkspoints mounted by security forces are doted almost everywhere in Nkwen, Bamenda III Sub Division and Bamenda as a whole.

Many inhabitants say they do not have a problem with the hundreds of checkspoints but the extortion and harrassment on civililians by the uniform officers is detasteful.
