Separatist Ambazonia fighters in Essimbi, Benakuma Sub-Division of Menchum Division of the restive North West Region of Cameroon, have killed a man accused of having links with security forces.
The man whose name MMI got as Karana Patrick was found dead on Thursday, July 6, 2023, a few hours after he was reportedly “summoned by the fighters.”
“He was invited by the separatists for an issue that concerns him but to our greatest surprise, he was discovered this morning as his corpse was abandoned on the bridge of a small river linking with River Mentchum,” Lawrence, an Essimbi native told MMI.
“He honoured their invitation for questioning, not knowing that he was invited to be killed,” our source continued.
Patrick MMI gathered, “Was suspected of working with the military against them. But that was not the case,” added our source.
Extra-judicial killings have continued with impunity in the restive Anglophone regions where a bloody quest for independence has been raging since six years ago.
The latest killing comes a few days after Amnesty International released a report faulting armed separatists, government soldiers, and the Mbororos for atrocities perpetrated against the local population.
