On Sunday dozens of people were abducted in M’Muock, a village in Alou subdivision, in Cameroon’s South West region.
Allegedly orchestrated by separatist fighters, locals claimed they were demanded huge amounts of money for the release of their loved ones.
Reports from the locality said a majority of the people have been released.
A source said they were released following negotiations with the Amba boys.
“The release started on Tuesday with the payment of 30-50 thousands and those who could not pay this sum on Tuesday are now requested to pay up to 100,000 FCFA”
The move comes after an outcry against the action as well as an attempt by the Cameroon armed forces to intervene.
While the abductions are not a first of their kind, Sunday’s abduction by non state armed group is one of such with the most persons abducted.
