A first year Biology student of Higher Teacher Training College, HTTC of The University of Bamenda shot Sunday night is in dire need of help to obtain medical care.

Admitted at one of North West Region’s most renowned health facility, the hospital has asked for 300,000 FCFA deposit before commencing surgery to extract the bullet from his leg.

Forgambe Sony Meghop was shot by gunmen last night on his way home from his regular bike hustle around the Down Quarter neighbourhood in Bambili.

He attests that he saw five men who did not stop him but fired on him and escaped. The bullet penetrated his buttocks down to his kneecap.

Thanks to residents around the scene which is residential, he was rushed to the Bambili Medicalized Centre where he got first aid treatment before being referred to a bigger hospital.

For 24 hours now, Sony has been in pains. Attempts to reach his parents have since proved futile. His cité mates say none of his relatives has responded to calls they’ve made.

Neighbours of his mini-cité have said he is a calm and trouble-free person. Sony got into bike riding as means to raise money and foot his bills during his study and stay in Bambili.

Officials of The University of Bamenda have not made any statement yet, and may only do so in response to an official request for medical assistance by close relative(s) of the victim.

UBa students pay a medical insurance fee annually and therefore enjoy medical insurance in case is deemed admissible.
