Slain Seminarian Descibed As Martyr Of The Anglophone Crisis

Catholic Priests in Bamenda have prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of Akiata Gerard Anhangwe, a Seminarian of the Bamenda Archdiocese who was shot dead two weeks ago by the Military.

It was during a farewell mass service, Tuesday in honour of the Seminarian.

While recounting the circumstances that led to his death, the Archbishop of the Bamenda Archdiocese pleaded with all armed groups to give peace a chance.
He called on the military, amba boys and those who have taken advantage of the situation to drop their weapons. “There is no way this problem can be resolved through war and bloodshed…”
Archbishop Cornelius Fontem Esua told Christians.

He was shot dead on October 4 by soldiers who stormed the Saint Theresa’s Church, Bamessing Quasi Parish, Ndop.
An earlier communique from the Bamenda Archdiocese said, Akiata Gerard was shot three times in the neck that day after the morning mass.

The Archbishop has described the slain Seminarian as martyr of the anglophone struggle and gave him special status as he died praying with the rosary.
Akiata Gerard is the lone son of a Catechist, Akiata Stephen.
He hails from Konda village in Njikwa, Momo Division North West region of Cameroon.

The seminarian was laid to rest today at the big Mankon Cathedral cemetery
