Soldiers, Amba Boys Fall in Battle For Esu -Military Burns Houses in Ndop

The population of Esu in Fongum Subdivision, Menchum Division of Cameroon’s North West region, is now seeking refuge in bushes following more than one day of cross fire between security forces and pro-independence fighters.

Sources on the ground told Mimi Mefo Info that at least ten people were killed amongst whom are soldiers and Amba boys. We were told death toll on the side of the military is over 7 though security officials are yet to react to the number of casualties.

The battle intensified yesterday Monday September 24th 2018 when Amba Boys reportedly attacked soldiers in a small barrack in Wondere.

Esu is gradually being transformed into a desert as gunfights continue.

Meantime, residents in Ndop Ngoketunjia Division are seeking refuge in bushes after military attacked the Mbiyeh Quarter.

“When soldiers arrived here, they pulled out a popular bar man called Ahidjo from his house alongside another person who was in the house. They were instantly shot dead and two houses set ablaze including that of Ahidjo..” a source told Mimi Mefo Info.

Quarters are gradually being deserted as tension mounts.

“We are in bushes because of sporadic gunshots…our houses are no longer safe for habitation,” our source added.

Tension has continued to mount in the conflict-hit North West and South West regions as October 1 (Independence day of the British Southern Cameroons) approaches and October 7, the election day in Cameroon rejected by Anglophone activists who are calling for secession and independence.
