An unconfirmed number of soldiers are feared dead after an attack on them by separatist fighters in Muea, South West region.

The attack which is now one of many others in recent times took place yesterday in the restive Muea neighborhood, close to the South West Regional capital, Buea.

Reports say the separatist fighters attacked a pickup transporting soldiers, destroying it beyond repairs.

In propaganda videos shot at the scene same day, the fighters boasted of having taken control of the area and were ready to ‘wipe’ out any obstacle on their path.

They were also pictured with what is believed to be heavy weaponry and a mini rocket launcher.

They rained curses on the military as they fired gunshots in the air. “Where are they? Let them come!” Yelled some of them in Pidgin English.

In the meantime, the situation appears to have been arrested by the forces of law and order, and the separatist fighters once more are no where to be found. The army and Ministry of Defence have however maintained sealed lips over the recent happening.

Muea has often witnessed several violent incidents and gun battles between security forces and separatist fighters. The locality however is closest to Buea, often described as a cradle of peace in the turbulent Anglophone regions.
