Persons living with disabilities in the South West region of Cameroon are lamenting following the sale of a piece of land allocated to them to construct an inclusive pilot center in Malingo-Buea, MMI has gathered on good authority.

According to them, the land was allocated to them in 2006 but has now been sold to a certain Dr Lawrence Taniform.

According to reports, no one knows who has sold the land but fingers are pointing at the regional President of Association of persons living disabilities for the South West region Roger Nkanmanyi.

Persons living with disabilities in the region gathered at the said land in Malingo, in protest September 1, 2022 .

The land is currently being exploited for construction irrespective of an injunction by the Divisional Officer for Buea.

“… we tried to figure out through our leadership based in Buea and discovered there was some foul play,” a spokesman for the protesting group said, adding that “the best we could do was to report to the D.O who actually placed an injunction order upon our request on this land on May 5 this year.”

“While waiting for the matter to be resolved, we have discovered there is an ongoing development on the said land” he went further.

Noting that Cameroun is a state of law, he said a land consultative committee is supposed to meet to decide on the land since an injunction order has already been placed but there are surprised that nothing has happened as such.

“Our land is illegally being developed without our knowledge. Some of our brother’s in complicity with the person occupying our land are now telling us that the state has relocated us to Tole which is not accessible to persons living with disabilities”.

Recalling that Cameroun has signed international conventions to protect persons living with disabilities, they said it is time  to respect the engagement: “We want the world to know that our lives are in danger and we need help”.
