Special Youth Triennial Plan: Four years after project launch, no youth has benefited

By Tebi Louis, Teacher & Civil Society Actor

Upon launching of the project to facilitate the training, funding and empowerment of Cameroonian youths to the tune of 102 billion FCFA by President Paul Biya, It brought hope and consolation for many Cameroonian youth.

The concept note of the project was charming when the plan was solemnly announced. However, during the implementation phase, it turned out to be another ghost project.

Four years into the project, millions of Cameroonian youths who registered to benefit through decentralized services of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education are yet to benefit in any way from the project.

In February 2019, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education was questioned by youth parliamentarians in Yaounde on the advancement of the project.

In response, Minister Mounouna Foutsou promised youth parliamentarians and members of the national youth council that they shall be considered in the project.

As a result, he instructed them to write their projects for funding from the plan. Till date, no single youth from the North West Region has benefitted from the youth plan fund.

There are two things involved, either those charged with the implementation of this project have embezzled the funds destined for youths or the Head of State President Paul Biya lied to Cameroonian Youths during his 2016 address to the youths on the eve of Youth Day.

Posterity will however hold those involved responsible for their deeds and actions. It takes just time for fake promises to be uncovered for the truth shall always prevail!
