Willy Likiefac Esq, defense lawyer for the state military intelligence unit of the Cameroon army, known by its French abbreviation DGRE, in the high-profile Martinez Zogo murder case, has died in a tragic car accident.

The Douala-based lawyer was pronounced dead on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Douala General Hospital following the accident, which occurred on the Douala-Yaoundé highway. Likiefac was reportedly returning from Yaoundé when the accident took place.

Emergency services rushed Likiefac to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. Three other individuals involved in the accident also lost their lives.

At the time of the accident, Likiefac was traveling with fellow lawyer Barrister Slim Jackson Monteu Nzonteu. The legal team had recently participated in a hearing of the Martinez Zogo murder case on Monday, September 9. The case had been adjourned to September 30.

Willy Likiefac Esq was representing the state in this lengthy legal battle, which centers on the murder of journalist Martinez Zogo. Members of the DGRE, including former director Maxim Eko Eko and head of operations Justin Danwe, stand accused of direct involvement in Zogo’s killing. The state of Cameroon is named as a civil party in the case.

This tragic development adds another layer of complexity to a case that has already captured significant attention in Cameroon and beyond.
