Family members of a young store operator, Nkwenti Nelson Cho , 26 have raised an alarm that their brother has ‘disappeared’ in military detention in Santa subdivision, Mezam division of the of the North West region. They have called for Cho’s release, declaring his innocence.
Soldiers they say, arrested Cho on Sunday 27 March. The soldiers took him in, “claiming he is leader of Amba fighters,”a relative told MMI .
He was picked up from his village of origin, Baba II and has since not been seen or heard from.
Citing his innocence, Cho’s family members who spoke to MMI say, they are shocked the army claimed he had links with separatist fighters. What is more shocking, they add, is the silence of the army.
The family remains unaware of his location and fear the worst possible fate might have befallen him.
Cho is one of thousands of young men arrested illegally and detained by the forces of law and order for alleged links with separatist fighters. In some cases, some have been tortured, killed or summarily executed.
