Cameroonian police have started seizing passports of girls and woman travelling to Dubai in the Middle East.

The accused immigration police at the Douala airport, have said, woman travelling to Dubai are supposed to have their work contract signed by Cameroon’s consul General in Dubai, with a fee of 150 Dirham to be paid for the exercise.

After that, they will have to buy a return ticket and must be in possession of at least 1500USD for their upkeep.

Many woman have been blocked at airport in Cameroon and their passport seized, their visas will soon expires and will mean they will not be able to travel again.

Police sources hold that the law has been in place since 2017 and that what is being done now is Reinforcement given the huge number of people, mostly woman, leaving Cameroon for Dubai and other Asian countries.

The measures according Cameroonian authorities, is to protect young girls from falling prey of perilous immigration journeys, that has transformed hundred of Cameroonian girls to sex slavery, with many losing their lives.

Reports of maltreatment of girls who leave Cameroon on a suppose house help work contract, but end up as sex slaves abound. Some have equally died in the process as a result of torture and pains from their masters or hosts.

Reports say the government is keeping the seized passports.

Passports production in Cameroon now takes more than the time required to be delivered an in some cases, over a year.
