Students to bear the brunt as Tubah Council imposes 250 FCFA tax on taxi drivers

The price of boarding a taxi from City chemist roundabout in Bamenda to Bambili in Tubah subdivision will likely witness an increase in the days ahead.

This follows a decision taken by the Tubah council to impose a daily 250frs payment on Taxi drivers plying the road.

The decision Mimi Mefo Info learned was arrived at following a meeting held by the mayor of Tubah, Tanjong Martin, and his collaborators. During the meeting, the mayor announced that the money is needed for the development of the municipality.

“I had a meeting with the D.O, Police, the divisional and regional union of taxi drivers, and we resolved that the council will continue the collection of 250frs”, mayor Tanjong said.

The mayor disclosed that the reason for the tax is because the taxi numbers are registered in Bamenda city and they ply Tubah and the law says that such taxis have to pay 250frs per trip.

However, during a meeting with the SDO, it was resolved that it should be 250frs per day.

Some taxi drivers have vowed to increase the transportation fare to Bambili so as not to suffer the burden alone.

If that is done, students will continue to suffer the burden.
