During the inauguration of his delegation’s newly constructed building, the South West Regional Delegate for Public Contracts, Alfred Kati Njinti, demanded the provision of brand-new equipment.
He made the request in his speech while addressing the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Public Contracts, Talba Malla Ibrahim.
The Minister Delegate was at the newly constructed site located adjacent to the Buea Council in the South West Region of Cameroon on October 5, 2023, to officially inaugurate the modern storey building, which will henceforth host the Delegation of Public Contracts.
Present at the inauguration were the Governor of the South West Region, Okalia Bilai, the Mayor of Buea, David Mafani, the Honourable Malomba Esembe, and other stakeholders.
In his speech, the Regional Delegate for Public Contracts expressed gratitude for the erection of the edifice as he noted that they are “happy and proud” to be in their own building. Over the past years, they have been hosted by the South West Delegation of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development (MINEPAT).
“We thank the South West MinEPAT equally for having enough space to host their delegation for one year in appreciation for all that they have done for us,” Alfred Kati said.
While addressing Minister Ibrahim Talla, the Public Contracts Regional Delegate said, “Like Oliver Twist, we will ask for more. This magnificent building will require equipment that will reflect its magnitude. Your Excellency, the equipment and furniture given to us in 2013 have depreciated tremendously and, as such, could not be moved to this building.”
According to him, the chairs and equipment used at the inauguration ceremony will be returned to the owners, while in the subsequent meetings, “we may not have where to sit” if equipment is not provided.
“We just want to plead your indulgence and continuous understanding…that we need to equip it to make it more useful,” Alfred Kati went on.
The building, funded by the government of Cameroon through the Public Implementation Project of 2019–2022, is said to have cost 520 million FCFA, including taxes.
It comprises a total of 34 rooms and was constructed on a total surface area of 947 square metres.
