Sylvain Riquier Appointed New French Ambassador to Cameroon

Sylvain Riquier has been named as the new French Ambassador to Cameroon, in a decree signed by President Emmanuel Macron on August 8, 2025.

Riquier, who has been serving as France’s Ambassador to Comoros, will assume the role of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cameroon as from September 1, 2025.

He succeeds Lieutenant General Thierry Marchand, who has held the position since October 4, 2022.

Riquier brings a wealth of diplomatic experience to his new posting.

Training

  • Former student of the National School of Charters (1989)
  • Former student of the National School of Administration (2003)

Career

  • 2006-2010: First Advisor in Islamabad (Pakistan)
  • 2010-2013: Consul General in Beirut (Lebanon)
  • 2013-2018: Deputy Director of the French Administration, Directorate of French Nationals Abroad and Consular Administration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Paris)
  • 2018-2021: Deputy Director, Directorate for French Nationals Abroad and Consular Administration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Paris)
  • September 2021: Appointed French Ambassador to the Union of the Comoros
