A Cameroonian lady called Ayuk Marilyn Ayuk a.k.a Ma Mary, daughter of Ma Regina Ayamba from Big Mbi, Upper Bayangi Subdivision, Manyu Division is now stuck and incapacitated in Thailand after suffering from a brain tumor, caused by the several hardships she has encountered in the country after being sold a stolen visa.
The Cameroonian community in Thailand has been in charge of Ayuk Marilyn ever since she was released to them by the Thai authorities who held her in prison.
So What Happened?
According to an explanation given to us by a member of the Cameroonian community in Thailand, Ayuk Marilyn had traveled to the country back in 2013, but due to the Thai policy of obtaining a non-working visa from Nigeria in case you wanted to change your school, she traveled to Nigeria in 2018 for that purpose.
Upon arriving in Nigeria, we are told she was denied a visa, which then took her to Cameroon where she met a friend who said her boyfriend could get her a tourist visa to enable her to return to Thailand, an offer she willingly accepted.
She paid for the visa, which as has been realized, was a stolen one. She returned to Thailand in 2018, got a job, and started working. After a while, it was alerted from Nigeria by the Royal Thai Agency that some visas had been stolen from their offices.
An investigation was opened from that report and it was found out that Ayuk Marilyn’s visa was one of the visas which had been stolen from Nigeria.
She was arrested and kept in detention for over three months while the Thai Police underwent their investigations. She was then released, but her passport was withheld as she still had to attend court cases.
At the end of the trial, she was given a 6-year jail term by the Thai authorities. She was advised to hire a lawyer to appeal the case which she did and the sentence was reduced to 2 years, costing her at least 300,000baht (5.5MFCFA).
While in jail, she called her friend who had connected her to the man who sold the stolen visa to her. This friend of hers, now living in the U.S.A is said to have rebuked her upon hearing the accusations against her boyfriend. She is said to have mocked Ayuk Marilyn and called her ungrateful.
Stressed up, Ayuk Marilyn had a mental breakdown which later affected her brain. She has had two surgeries on her head at a cost of at least 470,000baht (8Million FCFA) paid by the Thai Government given she was a state property at the time.
With her persistently worst health condition, she has been freed by the Thai Government and given the green light to return to Cameroon.
However, the means to send her back to the country are very limited. She is currently in a hospital where she is highly incapable of doing anything.
Her relatives back in Cameroon have depended on her for their daily living, and can’t even as much afford to feed her in Thailand.
The Cameroonian Community in Thailand is pleading with all Cameroonians of good faith to support Ayuk Marilyn to get well and be brought back to the country.
