The mother of missing activist, Abdul Karim Ali has said the last time she heard from her son was at 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2019.
Mme Hadjia Amina Ali said Abdul Karim had just left the Swiss Embassy where he had an appointment after his recent trip to Switzerland.
“When we spoke at 3p.m., my son told me he was heading to Douala after meeting the Swiss Ambassador. But two hours later, he was no longer taking his calls, until we heard about his arrest on social media,” Hadjia Amina told Mimi Mefo Info in tears.
She said Abdul Karim was unreachable at about 5:29 p.m. that Wednesday, and then, his phone was switched on few hours later.
“He has not been taking calls or replying to his messages,” the mother said.
Legal minds have termed the arrest of the 38-year-old Muslim Scholar as illegal.
He is reportedly being held incommunicado at a detention facility in Yaounde.
“I cannot tell if my son is still alive,” the mother said.
Abdul Karim playing the price for telling the truth?
The government of Cameroon has not issued a statement following Abdul Karim’s arrest.
It remains unclear why he is in detention.
However , sources say Karim’s arrest is not unconnected with his critical statements on TV interviews and his recent trip to Switzerland .
Abdul Karim said on Equinoxe TV Tuesday, September 24, 2019, that “the ongoing situation in Southern Cameroons will only be resolved through negotiations and not dialogue….I will not stop telling the truth even if it costs my life.”
This is not the first time Abdul Karim is lashing out on the President Biya regime over what he called poor management of the crisis.
Abdul Karim just returned from a conference in Switzerland.
The meeting which saw the participation of international organisations amongst others things centred on the armed conflict in the Anglophone regions.
Suspicious silence of Swiss government
Hadja Amina Ali has called the Swiss Ambassador several times without any “fruitful” response.
“I spoke with the Ambassador, he told me the Red Cross and other International Human Rights Organizations have been notified, but I have not been able to get to my son,” she said.
Mimi Mefo’s request for comments from the Swiss Ambassador to Cameroon is still awaiting response.
But Who is Abdul Karim?
Abdul karim Ali was born on December 5, 1981 to Hadjia Amina Sapia Ali and Alhadji Ali Mallam Baba.
He attended Anglo-Arabic and Islamic Primary Schools simultaneously.
The Muslim Scholar further went to CPC Bali, CASST Bambili in the North West Region of Cameroon, and the Microsoft IT Engineering Institute in India.
Abdul Karim studied Christian Theology and Higher Islamic Studies in Cameroon.
Today, he is a Microsoft Engineer, Muslim Scholar of the Bible, Conference and Motivational Speaker, Human Rights Activist, and Islamic Studies Instructor.

The arrest of Abdul Karim is coming few hours to the highly trumpeted Major National Dialogue. It has put the regime’s intention to resolve the Anglophone crisis to question.
