It has been disclosed that the war ravaging lives in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon has continued to cause thousands of children to go without birth certificates.

Talking to reporters in Bamenda on the occasion of the 11th African Day of Decentralization and Local Developement and the 5th African Day of Civil Status Registration, the Regional Delegate of the National Bureau for Civil Status, Levi Neba, said more than sixty thousand children are without their very first certificate which is the birth certificate.

“Many of these documents were left behind as their owners escaped insecurity from villages. Now the children are without the documents and many of them will be sitting in for the First School Living Certificate exams. This will not be possible if they don’t have birth certificates, ” he said.

Sources from Bamenda say the Regional Delegate also challenged the courts, councils among others to ease the process of acquiring birth certificates so that the number of children without birth certificates can be reduced.

it should be noted that many have lost their birth certificates to wild fires when their homes were burnt by Government forces and separatist fighters all actors in the ongoing war romancing the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.
