Trade Minister announces cement price reduction in Yaounde, Douala

Luc Magloire Atangana, Cameroon’s Trade Minister has announced a reduction in the price of cement in Douala and Yaounde.

This was in a release signed on September 1, 2022, by the Trade Minister.

The reduction, according to the Minister is due to an increase from, “500,000 tonnes to 1,500,000 tonnes of cement production per year,” by the “MIRA S.A. Company, one of the six cement production companies currently operating on the Cameroonian market.”

“This increase in production capacity is accompanied, concomitantly, by a reduction, of a comparable magnitude, in consumer prices,” Luc Magloire added.

As a result, the price of a 42.5 kilogram cement bag in Douala will henceforth be 4,800 CFA, instead of 5100 CFA, while in Yaounde, the price will reduce to 5,400 FCFA instead of 5,100 CFA.

On the other hand, the prices of a 32.5 kilogram bag, in Douala, will leave from 4,600 CFA to 4,100 CFA, and 4,900 CFA to 4,400 CFA in Yaounde.

However, many, following the nature of the release, have wondered if houses are constructed only in the towns of Douala and Yaounde as no measures have been announced for other towns.
