Trending news stories in Cameroon – 26th May 2021

Military men in Nkambe are in search of supposed separatists in Berabe- Ako Subdivision in the North West region of Cameroon. The armed men are reported to have wounded a soldier with the use of an explosive they planted along the road. Two soldiers on board a motorcycle were heading to Nkambe from Ako when the local bomb exploded around Jeyu village.

At least sixty-one thousand Cameroonians have taken COVID-19 vaccines since its introduction in the country in April. Dr. Manaouda Malachie, Minister of Public Health announced that today in a meeting with African diplomatic representatives in Cameroon. The minister says there are 35 COVID-19 patients taking treatment now in Cameroon.

The second ordinary session of the national assembly in Cameroon will start on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. This has been announced by the president of the national assembly Hon. Cavaye Yeguié Djibril. Meantime, a total of seven parliamentarians have died since the beginning of the legislature in 2019.

Successful candidates of common entrance examination are now seeking admission into secondary schools. Some secondary schools are already calling on prospective students to go for interview. Meantime, some schools say their results have not been published.

Today, the SDF clocks 31 years since it defied the odds to force multi-partism in Cameroon. The party has since then been under the leadership of its founder, Ni John Fru Ndi. The party’s anniversary comes amidst controversy and leadership tussle.

Rev. Father Eboka of the Mamfe Diocese has been kidnapped today by unknown gunmen. The reason for his kidnap has not yet been disclosed.
