Travel agencies in Douala and other major cities in Cameroon are being flooded by students and pupils returning to their host cities ahead of school resumption. The start of third and final term of the academic year is due to begin next Monday. COVID-19 preventive measures are, however, not being respected in these crowded agencies.

200.000 doses of the coronavirus vaccine are due to arrive Cameroon on Sunday April 11 at 6: 00PM from the People’s Republic of China. The announcement was made by the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie. Dr Malachie said Prime Minister, Dion Ngute will be at the Nsimalen Airport in Yaounde to receive the vaccines.

The March parliamentary session has ended in Cameroon without any measure resolutions on the table. Talks of how the lower house of parliament was to devise ways to sanction those who circulate indecent videos and pictures on social media were ignored. Even the bloody conflict in Cameroon’s Restive Anglophone Regions was not on the agenda. Closing the first ordinary session of the assembly today, the speaker of the house, however, frowned at the uploading and sharing of a video of the body of late Christian Cardinal Tumi on the social media.

Marcel Niat Njifenji, President of the Senate in Cameroon has called for the strict respect of COVID-19 measures. He insisted that new variants are more dangerous, “necessitating more action.” He made the remark closing the first senate session for the year 2021.

The Mayor of the Limbe city council, the SDO of Fako Division and other officials have visited some public places in Limbe today sensitising locals on the dangers of COVID-19 and the need to respect preventive measures. The officials added that repressive measures will be used on recalcitrant citizens.

The nation mourns Martin Okoda, a former member of government. The one time minister of Public Works died today. He equally served as minister of economic affairs and development. He dies same day as Prof. Gervais Mendo Ze, former general manager of CRTV and one time Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Communication.
