Two men reported to have stolen from a vehicle were burnt to death at Ndogpassi neighborhood in Douala Monday, March 27.

The two, said to have been in their late thirties, were apprehended by the mob, beaten and set ablaze at about 10pm for reportedly breaking into a woman’s car to steal her cash bag.

They are said to have broken the window of a woman’s car, which was parked at a fuel station, and attempted to take away her bag that contained money.

Unfortunately for them, they were caught after the woman screamed for help.

They were beaten indiscriminately by the mob before being set ablaze with fuel and used car tires.

This is not an isolated case of mob justice in Douala, as the phenomenon has become rife in the city and many other Cameroonian towns.

When asked why they prefer to beat and kill suspected criminals rather than hand them to the police, people have often responded that the bandits will bribe their way out of police custody and continue victimizing people.
