Two people are feared dead in Buea after a speeding truck crushed a taxi near the GCE Board building in Molyko.
The accident occurred this morning, leaving the taxi completely destroyed and beyond repair.
Reports suggest that the truck, which was traveling from Clerk’s Quarter towards Molyko, lost its brakes before crashing into the taxi and then colliding with the GCE Board fence.
Victims of the accident were quickly rushed to the hospital, while police and members of the Buea Taxi Drivers Syndicate worked to clear the wreckage from the road.
This incident comes just one month after another deadly accident at the Great Soppo Market in Buea, which claimed three lives.
Like today’s accident, brake failure was also identified as the cause.
These recent accidents have raised concerns about the roadworthiness of vehicles using Cameroonian roads.
Although the government has established vehicle inspection centers across the country, including two in Buea, to ensure vehicles are fit for the road, bribery and corruption among road safety agents and police officers are being blamed for the ineffectiveness of these measures aimed at reducing traffic accidents.
