A tragic motorbike accident in the early hours of Sunday has left the Limbe community reeling in grief. This came after three young lives were abruptly cut short in a collision at Ngueme, one of the city’s busiest neighbourhoods.

Among the victims were two sisters, Sandra and Fri Mercy, originally from Mbengwi in the North West Region. According to eyewitnesses, the siblings were riding on a motorbike when a speeding vehicle struck them.

“They were hit so hard, there was nothing anyone could do. It was instant,” said a witness who arrived shortly after the incident.

The impact reportedly killed both women instantly.

The motorbike rider, whose identity MMI was able to confirm but is withholding pending official release, was rushed to a nearby medical facility in critical condition. Sadly, he later succumbed to his injuries.

“He fought hard, but the damage was too severe,” a hospital staff member shared under anonymity.

Speculation Surrounds Driver’s Identity

While the details remain unconfirmed, some reports suggest the vehicle involved in the fatal crash was driven by the child of a well-known Limbe-based businessman and football entrepreneur.

Local authorities have not yet released a formal statement or confirmed the driver’s identity.

“We’re aware of the incident and investigations are ongoing,” a police official told MMI. “We urge the public to remain patient and avoid speculation as we gather the facts.”

The accident has sparked an outpouring of grief across Limbe, with many taking to social media to express condolences and call for improved road safety measures.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for the entire community,” said a resident of Ngueme. “Young lives lost like this—it’s just too much.”

Call for Action

As the community grapples with the tragedy, citizens are calling on local authorities to address growing concerns over reckless driving and inadequate road safety enforcement in the region.

“This isn’t the first, and it won’t be the last if something doesn’t change,” one commenter noted online.

The Limbe motorbike accident once again highlights the urgent need for accountability and stricter road safety measures in Cameroon’s urban centers.
