U.S. to repatriate more Cameroonians though whereabouts of first set remains in doubt

More Cameroonian asylum seekers in the U.S. will be sent home today, Tuesday.

The move follows an earlier repatriation exercise weeks back that saw dozens of Cameroonians returned home.

Some of the deportees are believed to be seeking asylum after escaping from the country’s English-sepaking regions engulfed in a war for four years today.

Some of the activists, their lawyers say, have pending arrest warrants for their political activities and will be persecuted or even killed if they return home.

The lawyers have in the past also made allegations that immigration authorities are forcing some of the asylum seekers to sign their deportation papers.

Media sources say 32 men and four women are scheduled to be on Tuesday’s flight, mostly Cameroonian, but also some Congolese and Angolan asylum seekers.

Reports add that in the past days, the asylum seekers have been moved from prisons across the south to Prairieland Detention Centre in Alvarado, Texas, in preparation for a charter flight out of Fort Worth.

The whereabouts of the first set of asylum seekers repatriated weeks back remain unknown at the moment, as some are believed to be under investigation at ‘unknown’ security detention facilities.
