There has been widespread condemnation following the recent abduction and murder of a humanitarian worker in Nkambe in the North West region.
In a press statement, the United Nations systems coordinator in Cameroon, Allegra Baiocchi has denounced the act, calling it horrific.
To her, the killing of Pascal Ngwayi is a reflection of the myriad of challenges other humanitarian workers face in the Anglophone regions.“Our deepest condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues” she stated, adding that“humanitarian workers risk everything to provide aid to most people in need.
They must be respected and protected not targeted”.“The deliberate targeting of aid and aid workers constitutes a war crime” she added.
No group has accepted responsibility for the act so far, but government officials and Ambazonian fighters have often blamed each other for rights violations and killings in the Anglophone regions.
