The United Nations Women has assisted to re-establish birth certificates and Identity cards of some Internally displaced persons in Douala.
This is within the framework of “Second Chance Education” program, run by the organization.
Beneficiaries are mostly victims of the crisis in the two English speaking regions
Over 40 persons reportedly received the basic documents.
“I thank them for what they have done. They have done so much, this is not the first thing that they have done for me, I have benefited alot from this Organization,” a beneficiary told MMI.
The initiative according to Estrella Kinga, representative of the UN Women is to enable the IDPs benefit from the Second Chance Education program.
“We realized that for girls and Women to benefit in this activity, they should have a birth certificate or ID card” UN Women representative said adding that,” So, many girls who are IDPs were not able to participate because they don’t have civil status documents.”
The life document, according to the beneficiaries will be able to wipe away most of the difficulties they face as IDPs.
