The administration of the University of Buea in the South West region of Cameroon has set up a team charged with the responsibility of gathering all information concerning the encroachment into university land by unknown individuals.
The information will be used to prosecute perpetrators of the act.
A release signed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buea Thursday October 15, 2020, states that some unknown individuals without due authorisation invaded the university land while staff and students were on vacation.
Professor Ngomo Horace Manga says “crops and farms of students of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicines were destroyed by bulldozers used by the individuals accompanied to the site by armed security officers.”
The Vice-Chancellor says the land in question equally hosts the foundation of the newly created Faculty of Laws and Political Science and the Multimedia Centre of the university.
While calling on the university community to remain calm, the head of the institution says the university is ready to damage any structure put up on the disputed land by the trespassers.
He reminds those carrying out the action that they are “…violating article 41 (2) of decree number 093/027 of 19th January 1993 that prohibits entry in the university premises without express permission from the head of the institution “.
The Vice-Chancellor suggests in the release that the perpetrators of the land seizure are still publishing plans on the social media to continue their scam.
