The University of Buea has disclosed plans to release into circulation UB Spring, a brand of mineral water produced by the institution’s Faculty of Science (FS).

The information was disclosed by the Faculty’s Dean, Prof Roland Ndip, during a two-day Open Door Day event to showcase the innovations produced by the Faculty during its 30-year existence.

UB Spring, a product of the Faculty’s Department of Environmental Science, has been existing for over a year now, but wasn’t available for public consumption.

The coordinator of UB Spring, Dr Roy Mbua, highlighted the project’s success and future expansion plans.

He said the water is sourced from Mount Cameroon and has been professionally tested and certified to be good for consumption.

“If you may or may not know, the university is a standard for quality. We conduct robust research before production. We are confident in our purification methods, which are used by many companies producing potable water in and out of Cameroon,” he said.

The UB Spring project adds to a number of other income generating schemes run by the University of Buea and its alumni to generate income for the institution.

The University, in partnership with its former students, launched a microfinance institution and is planning on creating an automobile company, which will repair automobiles and solar cells.
