23-year-old Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, Cameroonian basketball player has been named Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Year by the University of Florida.

Mendjiadeu, a 6-foot-3 forward, was a unanimous selection for the award. She averaged 13.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game this season, leading the Gators to a 23-9 record.

Mendjiadeu was also named to the All-SEC First Team and the All-Defensive Team. She was a finalist for the Lisa Leslie Award, which is given to the nation’s top center.

Mendjiadeu is the first Cameroonian to be named Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Year by the University of Florida. She is also one of the few players from the country to be drafted into the WNBA.

“Dulcy is a special player and a special person,” said Florida head coach Cam Newbauer. “She is a great leader on and off the court, and she is a great role model for our younger players.”

Mendjiadeu is the latest in a long line of Cameroonian basketball players to make their mark on the game. Other notable Cameroonian players include Alvine Mendeng, who played in the WNBA from 2005 to 2010, and Luc Mbah a Moute, who is currently playing for the Los Angeles Clippers.

Mendjiadeu’s award is a testament to her hard work and dedication. She is a role model for young Cameroonian athletes, and she is an inspiration to women all over the world.
