The Rector of the University of Ngaoundere, Prof Uphie Chindje Melo, has filed a complaint for defamation after being called to retire from the job.

She filed the complaint against her financial controller, Nkili Abessolo Joseph, for “falsity and use of forgery in writing.”

The financial controller accused the Rector of having spent “six million CFA francs for her hotel, while the board of directors had only granted her the sum of 1,500,000 francs for the hotel.”

However, according to the bailiff appointed by the Rector, “Mr. Nkili was present during this resolution, which fixed the hotel at 6,000,000 francs and whose document had been co-signed by the President of the said Council and by the representative of the Presidency of the Republic.”

Prof Uphie Chinje seized the national anti-corruption commission a few days ago to petition her financial controller for corruption.

In response, the latter said the Rector had reached the age of retirement since February 2023, and can therefore no longer benefit from the advantages relating to her position.

The financial controller threatened to suspend her financial commitments if the Rector does not provide an activity extension document.
