Close 15 field workers of the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), are presently undergoing intensive medication after unidentified gunmen attacked them with machetes in the plantation site.
The incident that occured this morning, Wednesday, October 31 2018, saw the butchering of these workers with some having their limbs, hands and fingers, choppedoff.
According to field reports, the gunmen in their move to bring an end to CDC activities in that locality, resorted to beating the workers, with some even being abducted.
“We left early this morning for our usual chores at the CDC rubber plantation when suddenly some masked men intercepted us and asked all of us to kneel down. They then started whipping us with their machetes. Those who attempted to block the machete, had their hands cut off. We ran for our lives, but some were still kept there,” one of the injured told us.
The attack included women and men, with some in critical condition. The victims are currently at the CDC cortage hospital receiving medical treatment.
Meanwhile, security around the hospital has been tightened with the gates and the hospital premises on a lockdown.
Neither authorities of the Tiko Municipality, nor those of CDC, have made any statement with regards to today’s incident.
It should be noted that forces loyal to the Anglophone movement have launched repeated attacks on elements of CDC, with huge material and financial losses.
The General Manager, Franklin Ngoni Njie, recently said the financial losses incured on the sabotage, have amounted to several millions Francs CFA, with over 5000 jobs lost.
