Vehicles heading for Bamenda, headquarters of the North West Region of Cameroon are stocked in Santa with no headway, several passengers told MMI this morning.
The situation according to our sources is caused by bad roads further worsened by downpour — rendering the stretch impassable.
Transport and private vehicles entrying Bamenda this Thursday morning April 27, 2023 from other towns of the republic are parked on the road with passengers stranded.
“This is the stretch beside GTC Santa. We have been here for two hours and counting. These are vehicles coming from Buea, Douala, and Yaounde,” one of the passengers told MMI
It should be recalled that this is not the first time vehicles are stocked on this road leading to Bamenda.
The stretch has become a nightmare for road users and inhabitants of the North West Region of the country.
Government has repeatedly made unfulfilled promises to the population about actions taken to better the situation of the road.
Public works minister, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi in 2017 announced that construction work was to begin on the road to facilitate movement of vehicles.
He later on launch the project in a ceremony in Santa in the presence of the local population and state dignitaries.
Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute on his part during a visit to the North West region in 2021 said work was to begin upon his return to Yaounde.
But in April 2023, the road is still begging for government’s attention despite several assurances made in the past and present.
