Residents of Sop village in the Ndu subdivision have blocked the main road connecting Donga Mantung in the North West region to Magba in the West region of Cameroon. On October 9, a series of deadly attacks on the community sparked a protest, reportedly carried out by armed Mbororo militia.

Mr. and Mrs. Mangoh George lost their lives in cold blood, sparking outrage among the villagers. In response, a large group, mainly composed of women, took to the streets, carrying peace placards and blocking traffic on the main road, which has become a critical route for travellers in and out of Donga Mantung due to frequent separatist blockades on the Kumbo-Nkambe road.

Demand for Action Amid Continued Violence

Frustrated by the lack of government intervention and the absence of justice for the victims, the villagers demanded an end to the violence and called for immediate action from local authorities.

“We demand the presence of the Mayor of Ndu so that we can transmit our message to the government through him,” said one protester.

Another villager, mourning the loss of his brother, added, “My brother George Mangoh was a calm person. I don’t know what he did wrong to be killed.”

The protesters vowed to maintain the blockade until the administration arrived to address their concerns. “No vehicle will pass on this road today until we see them [the authorities]. We will sleep here until they come and meet us,” one of the protesters declared.

At the time of this report, no official from the local administration had arrived to meet the protesters.

A Community Under Siege

Sop village faces escalating violence, with armed Mbororo militia carrying out separate attacks that have resulted in at least five deaths in recent weeks. Despite peace efforts initiated by Wimbum traditional rulers and Mbororo community leaders, the violence has continued unabated.

The villagers’ protest reflects growing frustration with the government’s failure to protect their community and hold the perpetrators accountable, as deadly attacks persist without consequence.
