Visually impaired crushed to death by truck in Yaounde

A visually impaired man whose name MMI got as Arouna Nsangou hasbeen crushed to death by a semi-trailer truck at Tradex Emana, in Yaounde, Center Region of Cameroon.

The incident occurred on Saturday, September 9, 2022, at about 5 am.

According to reports, Arouna was on his way from a vigil when he got run over by the truck.

“He separated from the group to go and wait for the taxi. He was trying to cross the road. A woman on the other side of the road started screaming in order to alert the truck driver as well as Arouna. But it didn’t help” says Ange Ngangoum, a visually impaired person close to Arouna.

31-year-old Arouna was said to be the regional representative of the group of aggrieved blind and partially sighted people of Cameroon for the center.

“He was a unifier. It is on this basis that he was chosen to carry the voice of the indignant blind at the level of the center. Last June, he played a decisive role during our demonstrations at the Prime Ministry. Unfortunately, he will not know the outcome of the fight he has fought for months,” lamented Ange.

Arouna equally worked as a volunteer, in charge of sports and cultural affairs at the club for young blind people rehabilitated in Cameroon. He was also the vice-captain of the national football team for the visually impaired among other functions.

He dies at the age of 31, leaving his partner and two children in dismay.
