The president of Victoria United Football Club, Nkwain Valentine, has denied claims of being involved in any Match Fixing with FECAFOOT’s president Samuel Eto’o who said that Opopo (Victoria United) should be promoted to the first division.
The allegations surfaced on social media in a viral note in which Eto’o was heard saying, “Opopo should be promoted to the first division.” Valentine said in a statement that he does not recognize nor remember having such a conversation ever. He said that Victoria United is a respectable football club in Cameroon that has reached where it is today thanks to hard work.
“We can not accept this manipulation, lies telling, and forgery,” Valentine said.
“We wish to inform the public that the supposed voice note is not recognized by the president of our darling football club” he added.
The allegations against Valentine have cast a shadow over Victoria United’s recent success. The club has been one of the most impressive teams in the Elite Two division this season, and it is currently in contention for promotion to the first division.
Valentine said that the club is focused on its on-field performance and that it will not let the allegations distract it from its goals.
“Our sole interest is to develop football, accredit value to players and football staffs and create a standard in the South West Region and Cameroon at larger” Valentine reiterated in the press release.
