A notable of a chiefdom in Baleng, West Region of Cameroon, is said to have raped several little boys under the chief’s protection.
Most of his victims are said to be children aged 12 and below.
Despite efforts by the families of the victims, the notable was not arrested by the police. This followed protection from the village chief, who feared an explosion of the information.
According to reports, the notable was interrogated by the relatives of the chief, after which he was asked to carry out a health check and to undertake to take care of the school of his victims for 1 year.
Many, however, have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, as they believe the notable should be handed over to the forces of law and order.
Refusal to have him arrested and tried accordingly, they say, is proof of the impunity those in places of authority have and use to trample on others.
