On this day in 1961, Southern Cameroons got independence and became West Cameroon.

That is our story, that is our history.

Why has the day become so contentious?

Why have Southern Cameroonians over the decades gone to jail on this day for simply marking history? Are they expected to forget their history?

Inspired by the aphorism that those who forget their history or fail to learn from it are doomed to repeat it, MMI, seeks throughout today, to help us all learn from experts & historians about the significance of October 1.

We remember not only what happened in 1961, but also 3 years ago when the Ambazonian state was declared independent.
